Qualcomm to Deepen Collaboration with Taiwanese Companies for 5G and IoT
July 14, 2017

Qualcomm recently announced that it will join hands with Taiwanese partners to pave the way for 5G, IoT (Internet of Things), and VR (Virtual Reality) of the future, Economic Daily News reported on June 24. The commercialization of 5G networks is expected to happen by 2019, one year earlier than expected. Qualcomm stated that it will collaborate with Taiwanese companies for 5G projects, including 5G small cells, and will supply them high-end ICs for 5G devices. Last year, Qualcomm entered a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs under which Qualcomm promises to set up an innovation lab in Taiwan, thereby helping its Taiwanese partners speed up time-to-market for 5G applications like small cells and VR. So far, Qualcomm has cooperated with several big names in Taiwan such as TSMC, ASE Group, ASUS, and HTC.
